The Primary Wire Wipe (PWW) employs a novel principle: The wire to be cleaned passes between two strips of absorbing material which move in opposite directions laterally so that a clean surface is continuously presented to the wire. The PWW is designed to remove visible dust and excessive lubricant from the wire, thereby considerably improving the quality of the insulation bond, reducing the number of spark faults and increasing preheater sheave life.
The PWW has also been proven to be an excellent solution for the removal of copper dust. Customized modifications of the PWW have been proven successful in applying different types of lubricants and finishes, such as corrosion inhibitors, adhesion enhancers and welding wire finishing materials.
The PWW is suitable for wiping bare, tinned or plated nonferrous wire or strand from 18 to 30 AWG at line speeds compatible with modern extruder lines. It is an economical, low-maintenance, environmentally friendly alternative to traditional wipers such as felt pads, pieces of rag etc. which only accumulate excessive oil, lubricants and debris, but do not necessarily remove them from the wire.
